Lucky To Live Here in St. Louis

As Tootie once said

in one of our favorite classics,

Meet Me In St. Louis

"Wasn't I lucky to be born in my favorite city?"

There are thousands of things that

we LOVE about this city we 

call home. There are so many hidden gems,

things to do, places to see, people to meet,
and the list goes on. And while we'd love to
say "everything" is why we feel lucky
to live here in this city,

one of our absolute favorite parts of 

living in St. Louis is hands down, what we locals call,

South City. 

Geographically broad,

but locally tight knit. It's the place

we have called home now for

7 years. The Neighborhoods

all have that old city charm. The kind where
every street is

lined with brick houses, each unique
in structure and aesthetic. Local parks, 

like Francis Park,

where everyone goes to

walk their dogs. And it seems just about
every person you meet people is friendly, like
you both have a mutual understnading
of your love for the city. 

On top of all of that, there always seems to

be something going on, whether it

be Grub and Groove, Tour de Francis,

Macklind Days, or even just a

friendly neighborhood block party.

There's never a dull moment.

Embedded in the cozy neighborhoods, 

you will find lots of local eaterys and

shops. The convenience is such a bonus!

Mack Ave Deli (MAD deli), 

Copper Pig, Pub 9, Onestos,

Pueblo Solis, Russells, Donut Drive thru,

 Soha Art Gallery, just to name a few.

ONE MILE from 
Ted Drewes!?

South City Garden: You can't pick what you don't

grow. Neighbors come and maintenance this garden

daily. It also has a place for people to compost. 

Walking your dog around the neighborhood, you'll
always take interest in other people's landscapes
and unique architectures.

Turns out, The Donut Drive in doesn't just
have great donuts; it's also a great spot for
a photo shoot.

We've eaten more biscuits than we care 
to admit at Russell's Sunday brunch. You
won't find better ones in town!

You can always find a unique spot to take
some outfit pictures in South City

As avid music and fasion lovers, there
is nothing quite like living two blocks away
from a Record Store AND a cute boutique.

Brunch Crawl Donut Bar

A couple of weeks ago, I hosted

a stop on my family brunch crawl.

I decided for my stop to serve up

some homemade baked donuts and

coffee. The donuts varied from

cookes and creme chocolate donuts,

to simple sprinkle donuts, to my

personal favorite, the 

unicorn donut!..

or as my little cousins like to

call them, mermaid donuts!

I'll take either one!

Something came over me while

I was baking away in the kitchen, and 

I decided to try my hand at trying to

create a marble look with the icing.

It was much easier than I expected 

and I was completely obsessed with 

the results!

To create the marble look

, i made

the icing recipe according to instruction 

and made my base color using the pink pastel

dye. Then, taking my marble color,

I dropped VERY tiny drops into the

mix. taking a fork, I carefully began

the drag the color across the mixture

until I got the desired look.

Then I took the cooled donuts,

and dipped the tops on top of the mixture

and then pulled them back up and placed

on my parchment paper. I decided to add

some fun star sprinkles for extra

decoration!

Next, I needed a way to display the 

donuts for the party. I had bought some

Cake stands to use, but wanted the 

table to have some variety. After

resorting to Pinterest for some inspiration

i ran across some wooden donut stands.

So I decided to make my own.

I bought the wooden pendants and 

sticks from my local Hobby Lobby.

Using a 3/4 inch drill bit, I drilled holes

into the bottoms of the pendant.

to keep the stick in place, I used

some Sugru to hold them together!

Once they were assembled, I painted them

Pastel colors to match the other 

decorations I had bought.

Time to put the party together!

Tunesday; Tom Petty

Today, we pay homage to a musical

legend, Tom Petty. Tom Petty's music

was that of both nostalgia and influence

for us. We grew up on Petty.
From jamming out to American Girl and
Free Fallin', to cruising along to Wildflowers.
One of our favorite go to Petty staples is
American Girl. It always seems to make
it's way on any one of our playlists.
We can still remember watching
his Last Dance with Mary Jane

music video on VH1. There was something

so eerily captivating about it, and it still remains

one of our favorite music videos to this day.

As a matter of fact, we had just been talking about

the video last week. Unfortunately, we never got the chance

to watch him perform live, but can only

imagine the performance to be nothing short of memorable.

It's sad to think 

the music we grew to love and 

rock to, will now remain memories

 on the pressed vinyls, CD's

and streamed music.

  

May you rest in peace Mr. Petty.

Your music and soul will be greatly
