Backyard Bohemian

 One of our favorite looks for fall this year is Peplum details.  We decided to mock this look with a bohemian twist by layering two dresses together.

diy: leopard nails

There are very few things that I love more than leopard print {besides lace} and a great new nail look. This leopard nail art is the perfect fix for both and is easy to do.

You will need:

your choice of colors

a nail dotting tool {I used a q-tip}

nail pen or toothpick

  I used Sephora by OPI, "Under my Trenchcoat", for the base of the leopard nail with Revlon's "French Roast" and a Sally Hansen black nail art pen for the print. To compliment the leopard print, I decided to use a mint green color like this Sephora by OPI, "Cartwheels on the Catwalk." My favorite part about painting one nail different is that you can change your complimenting color at any time. This at home manicure lasted two weeks, so I did a color quick change to a muted coral for the second week.

We woke up Saturday morning in Saint Louis and by noon we were drinking beers and listening to live music on the main strip in Nashville, Broadway Street. Outside of nearly every other store front there was a new musician playing a different instrument. While the musicians were still there at night, the scene was completely different. Neon lights on the signs of each bar were competing with each other. And after jumping from bar to bar, Tootsie's Orchid Bar won both of our hearts, as did the city.

DIY: Vintage Sunglasses

 When I go vintage shopping, I always find myself going after the same items. Sunglasses and glasses always make the top of that list.  Every once in a while, you find a pair you just can't pass up, and it helps that they usually go for about a dollar.  Luckily, I know a thing or two about the optical business so even if I find a pair that has seen better days, I know exactly what to do with them, and you can too. It's really simple to fix a pair of glasses or sunglasses, no matter what the condition.  Take these for example.  When I found these at Goodbuy Girls in Nashville, the temples (sides) were loose, and they had a pair of trifocal lenses in them strong enough to make you sick with one glance through them.  Easy fix!

To fix these up:

1.  We decided to turn them into sunglasses rather than keep them as glasses. We loved the frame and thought it had better potential with a cool colored lens.

2.  We took them to a local lens laboratory and picked out the type of lens and color we wanted to use.  You can also do this at your Eye Doctor's Office if you are unsure what to do.

3. We also advised them to tighten up the screws on the temples and give them a little bit of a good cleaning.

4. We chose to go with a double color tint.  We used a darker brown at the top and then had it fade into a violet color.

5.  The glasses were sent through the lab, and one day later, sunglasses!

So, before you discard your old glasses or sunglass cause of a few loose screws or because your just sick of looking at them, give them a second look and consider a quick makeover!

Our weekend in Nashville was sweltering. The days were over 100 degrees and the nights were hardly much cooler. So we thought, what better way to stay cool then by vintage shopping.We found several stores, and one of our must-go's was Local Honey.  As if the name was not cute enough, the store was set in a renovated Nashville house; our dream. It was a perfect mix of classic vintage and handmade original pieces created by local artists.  It even had a sewing school on its upper level. Clothes were displayed against the whitewash interior with other repurposed art pieces. Petticoats lined the top of windowsills in the front of the building and shoes and boots bordered the hardwood floor. We were ready to move in.

Fox packing list: Free People five pocket denim cutoffs with versatile tops like these button down blouses {animal print button down blouse, H&M; neon pink sleeveless buttondown, Free People}. As for the accessories, a couple pair of favorite shoes {a fun sandal and a dressier wedge} and lots and lots of vintage gold jewelry!

 Gypsy packing list: Lace full circle ballerina style dress and chiffon ruffle front both, H&M, t-shirt style fringe dress, American Apparel.  I as well like to bring versatile basic tops to throw over my dresses for a day look like these black and white basic tees, American Apparel.  For accessories, Dolce Vita Harness boots paired with frilly socks, feather drop earrings, and these vintage circle sunglasses.
