champagne cupcakes

Around this time of year there seems to be an over abundance of champagne, if there is such a thing. Since we have several bottles on hand we decided to combine two of our favorite things: cupcakes and champagne. They will also make a fab hostess gift to the party we will be heading to later this evening. Happy New Year!

What you'll need:

One box of white cake mix

three eggs

1 1/4 c. champagne

1/3 c. vegetable oil

icing of your choice

Mix the cake mix, eggs, oil and champagne into a large bowl. Stir for two minutes with either a whisk or an electric mixer.  Fill cupcake liners 3/4 full. Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes. Decorate!

Cheers to the new year. See you in 2013!

westward bound

Today, we want to wish our dear friend Mallorie best of luck on her journey to California. She is transferring to LA for her job and we couldn't be more proud or excited about her latest adventure. She has provided us with tons of great memories, friendship and laughter over the high school, college and present years. This is definitely not goodbye, but see you later. We can't wait to visit you soon!

snowflake nails

This week we were mad over mint. We wanted to add some shimmer to the coveted shade for a new update. Using the leftover glitter from our mason jars, we were able to accomplish the look of freshly fallen snow {especially when it hits the light}.

What you'll need:

loose glitter
nail polish of choice
top coat

How to:

Apply two coats of polish {we used Essie's mint candy apple}. Allow nails to dry at least 15 minute and apply a thin layer of top coat to one nail. Gently pour the loose glitter and tap of the excess. Repeat for each nail.

Let it snow!

Holi-Do

This holiday up-do is as easy as 1-2-3 {literally}.  All you need is a headband and a brush!  First, simply take your headband and put it on over your hair.  Then, take the ends of your hair, and begin to tuck it into the headband.  Tuck and hairspray any looser areas as needed, and Voila!

mint to be

2. Essie mint candy apple nail polish
4. peppermint hot chocolate
6. Shourouk 'mia' earrings
7. babooshka turban also seen here
8. Rebecca Minkhoff sunglass case

We can't help but be inspired by all things mint this time of year. It's a perfect soft color for holiday parties, and who doesn't love a hot chocolate served with a peppermint stirring stick.  It's mint to be!

velvet gift box

Today for our holi'DIY', we wanted to share a fun way to add an extra personal touch to your gifts this year.  We turned an old shoe box into a unique gift box.

what you need:
shoe box
fabric and/or wrapping paper
scissors
fabric mod podge
brush

how to make:
First, start by taking your fabric or paper of choice and laying it out on a flat surface.  Take the lid of your shoe box and square it up on your fabric or paper. You can measure this next step out or you can eyeball it.  Cut around the perimeters of your lid leaving enough room to cover all of the sides. Coat the top surface with mod podge and press down the fabric or paper, smooth out any areas as necessary. You can mod podge the inner edges and tuck in all your excess fabric or paper, or if you would like, cut off any excess.  Repeat steps for the bottom of your box.
