CAM Art:314; Megan Singleton

Last week, we briefly told you about an exciting collaboration with 

the St. Louis Contemporary Art Museum and Local Bloggers

called Art314. We were all asked to choose a participating artist that inspired

us, to feature. After looking through all of the artists' work,

we connected immediately with one in particular, Megan Singleton.

Megan Singleton is a practicing artist and educator in St. Louis.

Known for her installations, she combines her contemporary
craftsmanship with sculpture, hand paper making and
digital application. This was one of the immediate draws we had
to Megan's work. She explores ecological relationships with
landscapes focusing on the patterns found in waterways, plants, 

and paths of travel that can be seen both aerially
and terrestrially. The materiality and rhythms of the natural world
can be seen in her work. We wanted to share some of our favorite  pieces from
 Megan's work.

Megan's current installation, Berlanderi from the Balize Delta,

explores the materiality form of the invasive plant Phragmites Australis,

also known as Common Reed in Louisiana. Her interest in the plant arose while 

she was researching its potential as a material for paper while

she was in residence at a program at Tulane. Her work is directly inspired

by personal experiences in nature and the research that evolved from

wanting to understand the history and systems of the plants. 

She is an observer, collector, fabricator and

instigator of thought and experience and we can't wait
to see her current work at the
