You know what they say:
A bagel a day keeps the donut away.
Unless
you really want a donut then it would
Be the other way around.
BUT who
doesn’t love a good ole’ fashion
everything bagel every now and then.
We don’t know what they put in that
seasoning, but luckily, Trader Joes does.
You can now buy the
“Everything but the bagel” seasoning
and make your very own bagels!
We recently picked up a couple ofb
bottles and decided to try our hand
at making some of our own.
The recipe is super simple and requires
NO boiling like traditional bagel making.
You will need:
1 cup of unbleached all purpose flour
¾ teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup non-fat Greet yogurt
1 egg white, beaten
Everything but the bagel seasoning
Preheat oven
to 375F. Place parchment paper
on a baking
sheet and spray it with oil.
Grab a bowl and combine the flour, baking
powder
and salt and
whisk well. Then add the Greek yogurt
and mix with a fork or spatula until well
combined (Side
note: it will be crumbly)
Take some
flour and spread t over a surface.
Take your
ball of dough from the bowl and
start kneading
it. You will knead the dough until
it’s tacky, but not sticky (it should not
leave dough
on your hand
when you pull away).
Take your dough and cut it into four equal sections.
Then, roll piece ball into semi-thick ropes and join
the ends to form bagels. (or you can make a
ball
and poke a hole in the center then stretch it
slightly)
Next, take your beaten egg white and a
basting brush and brush the
tops of each bagel
and then sprinkle both sides with seasoning of
your choice.
Bake on the top rack of the oven for 25
minutes.
Remove and let
cool 10 minutes before slicing!
Toast them and enjoy with your
favorite spread!
No better way to start your
day then with fresh
home made bagels!
