NYFW: Alon Livne & Monique Lhuillier

About Alon Livne

Alon Livné is arguably one of the most prestigious young fashion designers in the Middle East.
After training at Alexander McQueen, Alon was appointed to the eveningwear and couture division of Roberto Cavalli, where he focused on main and pre-collections as well as bespoke gowns for celebrities and international royalty.
Alon Livné brings his work to an international platform showing for Fall/Winter 2013 New York at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
His elaborate, sculptural eveningwear balances glamour and feminine spirit with complex texture and a decadent couture sensibility.

Inspiration

The collection has been inspired by the concept of a beautifully bleak post-apocalyptic world as described in the writings of British author J.G. Ballard.
This imaginary earth is inhabited by figures transformed through crystallization; once breathing, now beautifully frozen jewels imprisoned in a world hung between day and night, dawn and dusk.
The Alon Livné collection contains evening dresses as well as tailored separates, carefully made by a balance of new and old craft: modern sewing techniques juxtaposed by finishing methods taken from the couture world.

Monique Lhuillier Fall/Winter 2013

During Fashion Week, we had the distinct privilege to catch the Monique Lhuillier Fall/Winter 2013 runway show. To no surprise, Monique Lhuillier left us wanting more, sending Oscar-worthy gowns down the emerald runway.  Featured in the Lincoln Center tents, the designer presented viewers with a collection that exuded glamour and elegance.  The gowns featured luxurious fabrics consisting of lace, chiffon and silk.  Each dress had impeccable detail and intricate embellishments, a red carpet dream.

Also included in the collection were some amazing swing and cocktail dresses mixed with some versatile seperates.  Though the gowns stole the show, these pieces held every bit of our attention as well. (You can catch more of those looks here.) It took just about everything in us not to jump on that runway to fight for the gold glitter swing dress above.

Needless to say, we are very much looking forward to award season next year at the hopes that these gowns make their second appearance on the runway, or in this case, the red carpet.
